Why listing in Local Business Is So Important
It is ever so more important today that small business owners claim their free local listing with Google Places since Google Places is often one of the first listings seen on Google's search result page whenever their algorithm deems a keyword query to have local intent.
Google, Yahoo, and the other search engines have revolutionized how we learn, how we collaborate, how we shop, and in general have helped billions of people around the world harness the full power of the internet.
Today there are well over 10 billion unique searches done each month, and that's just in the United States! Of those searches,
- 20% of Desktop queries have Local intent
- 5% use the city and/or state name
- 2% use informal terms, like neighborhoods
- 0.5% use zip codes
- 50%+ of Mobile queries have Local intent
Based on Google's market share, we can extrapolate that there are OVER TWO BILLION unique Local searches per month on Google from Desktop computers in the United States. We saw both Google and Yahoo, and now Bing, make dramatic shifts in how they return results in 2008, and all the trends point to Local.
On top of that data, mobile search is absolutely exploding. Approximately one in five searches is performed from a mobile device. In some places around the world, like Japan, this number is even higher. Mobile searches primarily pull their results from Local Search Engines. All of this is to say: The potential to attract new customers via Local Search is enormous.
Making sure that you have a presence everywhere your potential customers might find you is critical to any local marketing plan. Don't wait! Add your local business to these directories today!
Traditional phone book advertising is dying and local online search is exploding. The numbers prove it.
- 54% of consumers say they replaced their phone book with the Internet.
- 1.8 billion searches involve consumers looking for local businesses every month.
- 43% of online searches made on Google include a geographic identifier like city or zip code.
- 70% of Internet users report using search engines to find a local service.
- Offline sales influenced by consumers browsing and researching online are projected to increase 12% over the next five years.
There are a few principles you should consider as they relate to local business listing optimization. For instance, you should absolutely try to get your business onto each and every local business listing website that you can find. The second key part of local business listing optimization is to ensure that your products, services, business name, type of business and all other vital information is updated and correct. This last step is of tremendous importance, because customers will not be able to get a hold of your business if your contact information is incorrect, and that inability will spell disaster for all of the time, effort and money your firm has put into local business listing optimization.

Why do I need to search for my listing?
We ask that you search for your listing to identify whether it is already in our directory. If it is in our directory and you are managing it, you can modify, enhance, or close it. If it is in our directory but managed by another party, you can request that they release the listing for you to manage. If it is not in our directory you can add the listing by clicking on the 'Add a Listing' link that appears when your search returns no results. Adding a listing enables you to add not just the core information about your business but will let you add as many rich details that describe it as you want.
How do I add a listing not in the directory?
You can add a new business listing, by going to the Add, Modify, Close your Business Listing section of the Help Center. You can then either Sign In if you have an existing account with Localeze or click Sign Up to create an account. Then you can add all the details about your business that you want including name, address, phone, and you can go on to enhance your listing with additional business categories, website, logo, and important information and descriptive keywords such as your hours of operation, and credit cards accepted, products, brands, services and more to raise your visibility in local search platforms.
Why don't I see options to claim, modify, close, or enhance a listing when I get search results?
These actions are only available on the business listing's profile page and on your Manage Listings page if you've already claimed that listing.. When you get search results, click on the listing name or the 'View Listing' link and it will take you to the listing's profile page. Here, you will be able to review the listing and determine whether or not you want to claim, modify, close or enhance it.
